Born: 6 March, 1920 in Berlin, Germany.

Died: 27 May, 1941 aboard Bismarck.

Age (at the time of Bismarck's sinking): 21.

Additional notes: Heinz Hager was born in Berlin and became a locksmith. His parents never married and he was the only child of Mrs. Hager. On 2 September 1939, Heinz Hager volunteered into the Kriegsmarine and initially served at the 2. Admiral der Ostseestation. On 16 October 1939 he was assigned to the 5. Schiffsstammabteilung at Eckernförde and stayed there until 30 January 1940. After that, he went to the 7/2 Abteilung M.S.K. (Naval School in Kiel). On 31 May 1940, Heinz Hager was assigned to the battleship Bismarck that was still under construction at the Blohm & Voss Shipyard in Hamburg. He was promoted to Maschinengefreiter on 1 July 1940, and remained aboard the Bismarck until the sinking on 27 May 1941.


Heinz Hager Wehrpaß was sent to his mother in June 1941. Mrs. Hager died in 1989, and this document is now part of Rene Oepen private collection.
